Blues provide tough hurdle for Jockeys
Great all round performance secures fourth straight win
A good, solid display from the visitors ensured a fourth consecutive victory along with a fourth consecutive clean sheet. An unchanged line up with a 4-3-3 formation saw the returning Cunningham and McGlone on the bench. On a decent surface Leiston took the game to their hosts and could have led as early as the eighth minute. Vowden's trip on Brothers resulting in a penalty but Hulyer guessed correctly to comfortably save Boardley’s penalty to his left. Jones fired high and wide the Jockeys best chance with a volley from ten yards while visiting stopper Stannard had to deal with long range efforts from Bugg and the lively Bell. Ottley-Gooch lobbed the advancing Huyler from a searching Boardley pass but his effort also cleared the bar. It was no surprise when the visitors took a 42nd minute lead. Eady dallied near the edge of the box, gifting possession to Calver who strode forward to confidently smash the ball beyond Huyler. Early in the second half Brothers saw a header strike the bar as Leiston began to take full control of proceedings. But the visitors had to wait until the final quarter before turning their dominance into goals. Cunningham and McGlone had entered the fray just before the hour mark but both had telling inputs. The second goal arrived on 78 minutes. Cunningham's left wing corner was flicked on at the near post by Head for McGlone to head home from close range. A minute later a fine five man move involving Boardley, Cunningham, Chenery, Calver and McGlone starting from the home side’s left wing corner flag ended with Cunningham finding the bottom left hand corner with a rasping drive from eighteen yards. There was still time for McGlone to flash an effort wide of the post. Leiston looked confident throughout and more than deserved this win. They had to deal with an experienced and robust home side and at times, eased their way through it. On top of this, some very strange refereeing decisions especially against the visitors. The defence especially looked solid and its now over 6 and a half hours since conceding.
