Brightlingsea Regent 2 Leiston 4
Leiston began their pre season warm up’s with a win at newly promoted to the Ryman League Division One North Brightlingsea Regent at North Road. The visitors, who are preparing for a third season in the Ryman Premier Division, had to come from behind following a seventh minute opener from Phil Kelly. The lead lasted just two minutes before Blake Saker equalised. Leiston went ahead for the first time in the match on the stroke of half time, Joe Francis finding the net. Last season’s leading scorer Craig Parker added a third early in the second half before Michael Brothers capped his return in a Leiston shirt with the fourth Leiston goal. Jake Turner completed the scoring in the final quarter of an hour, glancing home Sean Bartlett’s cross.
Assistant Manager Rob Bate said after the match, “It was a decent run out and there was a great attitude shown from the whole squad today. We saw a good level of fitness and the early intense training sessions over the past couple of weeks certainly helped our performance levels and our Premier level showed up well”.
The Blues now turn their attentions to their trip to Wroxham on Tuesday evening for their second warm up game before welcoming Joe Dunne’s Colchester United side to Victory Road next Saturday.
